The company was formed in 2004 after a merger between the companies Sanofi Sythelabo and Aventis. This merger was facilitated through French Governmental involvement and influence. The company headquarters is located in Paris France and the company is led by Chairman and CEO Jean-Francois Deheq.
The company is a true multinational with involvement in more than 100 countries throughout the world and is now the world’s third largest pharmaceutical company. Pfizer and Glaxo Smith Kline are the only larger pharmaceutical companies.
The company employs researchers at 25 development and medical research centers world wide, and its research teams can be found spread over North America, Europe and Asia.
